Who are the biggest influences in my life?
Of course, family plays a significant role in influencing life–and mine motivates me tremendously. But outside of the cliché and expected answers, I wanted to contemplate this question and respond thoughtfully. As a man, I work diligently to be able to provide for my family. And my wife and kids are massive motivators for me to strive for success and a fulfilling life. But more profound than that, the potential growth I could achieve is at the core of that motivation.
Although I have had great role models throughout my life, no one taught me how to do this. With each success or failure, I am amazed and motivated by what I continue to accomplish or learn. Matthew McConaughey said it best: The person who influences me the most is “Me 5 years into the future.” I genuinely look forward to learning from his lessons and experiences.
I mean, think about it. Where would you be today if you knew then what you know now!? I would have been astounded if I could go back in time and give myself some guidance based on today’s experiences and knowledge. Since we cannot go back in time, we must look forward and learn from the people we wish to become.
