Over this summer my wife and I have done lots of building around the house. We’ve replaced furniture that was falling apart, build new furniture to improve storage, and even eaten vegetables from our garden, that we built. We even had enough to give away. The further we dove into the how to’s of doing it ourselves, the more we realized that this DIY craze was not just something that we were doing. As it turns out all over the world young men and women, are doing it themselves. For reasons that vary as much as the items that they built. Anna White (www.anna-white.com), said she was just tired of waiting for her husband to build what she wanted. For me, I’m just tired of spending money on poorly built furniture.
Although the idea of building my furniture, at first, was a lot intimidating; with a little time, patience and the right tools however, I proved it can be done. With a simple google search I was able to find several free-to-use project design and have been able to build some of the best furniture that I’ve ever owned. One design I got from Design Confidential showcased the parsons media cabinet (unfinished picture below) once I was done.
If not for the sheer joy of building and working with my hands. The money savings on really strong and cool furniture was enough for me to jump on the DIY craze. What have you DIY’d lately?
