Google gives cloud-based database a boost

Google’s Cloud SQL database has gained more storage, faster reads and writes, and now offers users the choice of running their instances in data centers based in either the U.S. or Europe.

The performance upgrade allows enterprises to run bigger, faster MySQL databases on Google’s cloud, Joe Faith, product manager for Google Cloud SQL, wrote in a blog post on Thursday.

Windows 8, Should I Buy it or Not?

written by Corey L. Stokes

If you are running windows Vista, chances are you are in a hurry to get it off of your systems. But before you rush out and buy here are a few things you need to know:

  • What are the system requirements?Any system with the at least 1 GB or RAM, 16 GB of HDD space and a 1GHz processor should be able to handle windows 8. with a 2GB RAM requirement for the 64-bit version. However, prior to downloading you will be informed what is on your systems that is not compatible.
  • Should I purchase it or not?
At such a great price, why would you not buy it! Many reviews that I have read give very little negative feed back on Window 8(as far as Windows goes); other than a difficult installation process for the non computer savvy individual.  But it really wasn’t all that difficult to work through;  and if all else fails and if you are not worried about keeping old files, a fresh install solves all problems. For everyone else I would suggest running windows 8 in Virtual PCprior to switching over completely. As a part of the installation process you will have the option to create an ISO image disc “Install by creating media” You can use this disc for:

    1. Installing on a 64 bit machine
    2. Installing on other machines
    3. Installing using virtual machine
    4. For systems running windows XP

Before you install, go to the Windows 8 Set up utility to see a list of software and hardware currently installed on your system that will and will not work in the window 8 environment.

But if you are not in a hurry to upgrade. waiting on the next release definitely will not hurt you.
At the current price of less than $40, compared to Microsoft’s other releases, I say why not buy.
