The Gospel of Wealth by Andrew Carnegie

In my research to learn how money works, I came across this essay and was glad I took the time to read it. This short essay describes the duty that a person of wealth must be responsible for.   This essay was written by Andrew Carnegie, one of the richest men of his time and who has contributed much to what is known today about building and maintaining wealth. With the fortune he made from business he has built historic landmarks such as Carnegie Hall.  He also founded the Carnegie Corporation of New York, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, and Carnegie Institution to name a few.

After reading one of the passages that stuck out in my mind is :

This, then, is held to be the duty of the man of Wealth:
First, to set an example of modest, unostentatious living,
shunning display or extravagance; to provide moderately
for the legitimate wants of those dependent upon him;

I’ve included the free e-book below and would love to hear your thoughts.  Post your comments below!

A DIY plastic bag holder

Written by @CoreyLStokes and Michelline Stokes

Every week we collect a ton of plastic bags. Until we can get back to store to recycle them, we usually end up storing them on a door knob or in a closet stuffed inside one of the plastic bags. The problem is, it looks terrible! So my wife’s storage solution: turn an old unused pillowcase into a storage bag. She used some ribbon and elastic tape that we already had (from some of her other this and that crafts) and the whole thing was done in less than 30 minutes. Check out her bag and check out how much she saved ME from having to buy one.

Today In History, July 19

One of the ways I try to engage my children in learning, along with science projects is to look at a bit of history.  Growing up, I often heard the phrase, you can’t know where you are going, if you don’t know where you have come from.

I was recently reminded that the history of a day holds many stories of  triumphs, failures, tragedies and excitements.
