30 days: day 9- back to reality!

First 1-mile run after traveling

Vacations are great until they are over! Then it’s back to life and reality.  When I got home the tiredness from driving and stress of all the school work and work  messages about computers not working properly!  I just wanted to scream!  But, a good nap was enough to get my mind right and to get to get me going.  Monday’s stuff will obviously have to wait until Monday.  Today, I’ll take care of first things first! And that is just what I did.

After the brain drain of homework, I was ready for this short run. Unfortunately, my TomTom needed to be recharged from my weekend activity. So, I ended up using the Nike App on my iPhone 6 S Plus. Sometimes it really comes in handy, even though it feels like a VCR on my arm. Other times I wish I still had the iPod classic. But with another mile in the books I am ready to take on the world!

30 Days: Day 8, Running is a journey, enjoy it!

4-mile run in Blue Spring Mo.

Last night my wife reminded me that “because I’m on the road traveling ” is not a valid reason to press pause on achieving your goals.  When we got settled into our hotel room after midnight,  she encouraged me to go for a run. And after the experience I had with the hotel  treadmill, I wasn’t going back today.  So today’s run, I grabbed my TomTom Sports Watch and went out to find a path to run on.

I think that every run brings a  new experience.  Every chance that I get I make the experience even newer, I try to take it.  Today, in a town I didn’t know,  I went for a run on streets I was unfamiliar with.  And I enjoyed every moment of the journey.  From my hotel, I ran 2 miles down the road (following the sidewalk) and found my way back the same path.  I also did a bit of house watching while I was in the neighborhood.  They were absolutely beautiful!

I didn’t listen to an audiobook or a podcast during this run. Instead, I used a
Spotify workout playlist. The music that was played kept my mind off of the fact that I was once again running hills. Did I mention I can’t stand running hills!

That’s another 4 miles in the books!

30 Days: Day 7- Some is better than none

I don’t remember where I hear this but, some is better than none. One of the hardest thing to do I find is to maintain a workout schedule while traveling.  Your time schedule gets all messed up. And what’s more, If you drive most places you go you are too tired  to do much of anything by the time you get there.

day 7 – 1 mile and weights

For the most part, I am thankful that most hotels have a fitness center.  But for the record, I really don’t like  running on treadmills.  But, when I am traveling, I make it a point to stop by the fitness center to get 20-30 minutes of a workout before calling it a day . This helps me to feel like I did more than just sit around all day.   And, even if you don’t do a full 20 minutes, some is always better than none!
